News: Kalshi Can Now Offer Point Spreads, Totals And TD Props For Football Games
Kalshi’s football markets will be expanding beyond just who will win the games.
The prediction market is now set to offer wagering on point spreads, totals and touchdown props for the upcoming football season in both NFL and college games this fall.
Kalshi posted self-certifications for the contract types with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission this morning:
The markets don’t yet appear on Kalshi’s app or site.
If you’re not familiar with the betting types:
“Specified point margin” will be the equivalent of point spreads, which consist of betting on whether a team will win or lose by a specified amount.
“Team stat over/under” will at least allow users to bet on how many points a team will score. The more common way to bet on this at a sportsbook is the total number of points scored by both teams combined. The self-certification makes it look like Kalshi will start with just points scored by a team, along with other potential markets (ie yards, field goals, etc.).
The new offerings bring Kalshi one step closer to offering a full sports betting experience. Most of its betting options for sports so far have been whether a team or an individual would win or lose an event.
For football in particular, point-spread and totals betting are a far more popular way to wager on games, and should greatly increase trading volume vis-à-vis just moneyline betting.
It’s also Kalshi’s first foray into single-game prop betting with the addition of markets for players scoring touchdowns. That also likely means more prop betting options are coming in the coming months.
