Kalshi Volume Report: Wimbledon Was Almost Two-Thirds Of Trading Last Week
Wimbledon was a big winner for Kalshi this past week, with almost two-thirds of all trading taking place around the tennis tournament.
Betting on the tennis major accounted for about 63% of all trading from July 6-13. In all, about 82% of all trading volume at Kalshi involved sports. Here’s a look at the top 20 markets in that time period:
More notes on the data:
Seven of the top ten markets involved sports, and 13 of the top 20.
The top 20 markets accounted for more than 92% of all trading on Kalshi, meaning the remaining thousand-plus markets saw relatively little trading activity..
For Wimbledon, users could bet on the winner of the tournament (KXWMENSINGLES, KXWWOMENSINGLES) and individual matches (KXATPMATCH, KXWTAMATCH).
The men’s tournament ended up being more popular than the women’s event. Part of that difference may be due to women’s matches being shorter in duration, which can impact live trading dynamics. Iga Świątek won the women’s final 6-0, 6-0, which also likely muted trading on the winner on Saturday.
Robinhood also offers all of these Kalshi markets, which helps total volume.
Outside of tennis, single-game Major League Baseball betting (KXMLBGAME) was the most popular market, with about 11% of all trading.
Betting on MLB’s Home Run Derby (KXMLBHRDERBY) and All-Star Game (KXMLBASGAME) also appeared in the top 20.
Other sports markets in the top 20 included:
WNBA games (KXWNBAGAME)
The Scottish Open (KXPGATOUR)
FIFA Club World Cup matches (KXCLUBWCGAME) and the champion (KXCLUBWC)
MLS matches (KXMLSGAME)
UFC Fight Night (KXUFCFIGHT)
